NHC Charitable Trust Bursary Scheme Terms and Conditions
1) The bursary scheme is open to all social tenants aged 16 or over of all Northern Housing Consortium Members (made up of social housing providers and local authorities in the North and across the UK). *Applicants are not required to be named on the tenancy agreement.
2) The funding must be used towards the cost of learning or skills development, or to fund items to support the learning or skills development such as books, equipment, travel costs, childcare, or living costs.
3) Students already on apprenticeship programmes, or any waged training, are deemed to be supported through their employment, rather than in self-funded education and they are not eligible for this grant.
4) Awards are made through the Northern Housing Consortium Charitable Trust, a registered charity no. 1089070, registered at Hope Street Xchange, 1-3 Hind Steet, Sunderland, SR1 3QD.
5) Administration of the scheme will be carried out by Northern Housing Consortium Limited, a Company Limited by Guarantee, registered number 4361009, registered at Hope Street Xchange, 1-3 Hind Street, Sunderland, SR1 3QD. Northern Housing Consortium Limited is the Corporate Trustee for the Northern Housing Consortium Charitable Trust.
6) Funding for the awards will be supported through donations and from corporate sponsorship.
7) Bursary award will be judged based on completed applications by a panel comprising selected Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) Board members, NHC staff and selected bursary scheme donors or corporate sponsors.
8) Grant award will be prioritised for those tenants deemed by our members to require a greater level of support to access learning.
9) Northern Housing Consortium Limited reserve the right to select the panel for award appraisal.
10) Members of the award panel will be asked to declare interests when appraising applications that are submitted by tenants from a social landlord organisation at which the panel member holds a vested interest and they will be asked not to input into these individual applications to ensure a fair award process.
11) Northern Housing Consortium Limited reserve the right to decide the value of grant award and the total number of awards available for any bursary scheme period, and the right to withdraw the bursary scheme for future periods.
12) Applications for the bursary award will only be considered through this form and the process outlined above. No other method of application will be considered.
13) Applications must be submitted by the date specified in the How To Apply section above. Late applications will not be considered (but can be re-submitted in a future bursary period).
14) Applicants will be notified of successful or unsuccessful award through the social landlord contact details provided. We plan to notify all applicants of the award decision within one calendar month of the closing date.
15) For successful applicants, NHC Charitable Trust will request further details from the tenant through the landlord in order to process the remittance of the grant. The landlord may opt on the application form or via bursary@northern-consortium.org.uk to receive the cash payment on behalf of the tenant and administer it on their behalf.
16) If successful, remittance of the grant will be made by bank transfer only to the bank details provided in a single payment.
17) Remittance will be made within one calendar month of notification of successful award, dependent on receipt of bank details from the landlord/tenant.
18) The amount of each single award will be £500 as stated for a standard award(subject to term 11). Any requests for higher value amounts will not be considered. In 2024 only, we will also be awarding additional amounts of a lower value for specific requested items, such as a laptop.
19) Any single applicant may not apply for more than one award in any one bursary scheme period.
20) Previous successful and unsuccessful applicants are eligible to apply for a subsequent bursary in any future scheme period. The applicant will need to complete a full application form through the social landlord each time the grant is applied for.
